If you found your way from “5 Things to Focus on When Planning Your Elopement” then you probably don’t need to guess why talking about the location of your wedding is important to me. For those of you that are new here, here’s a quick recap. In 2013, my wife and I eloped and ended up getting married in a little storage shed by a complete stranger. No, it wasn’t ideal but we didn’t know any better so that’s the way things went.

When you know better, you do betterAnd you help others do better too.

That’s why I’m here giving you the breakdown of planning your intimate wedding or elopement. My goal is to guide you towards crafting a day that is authentic and real to you. And a huge part of that can be choosing an elopement location that means something to you.

So, this post is all about (Drum roll pleaseRat tat tat tat …

Choosing the right location for your elopement!

Well, there’s no point in wasting your time. Let’s get to this money! There are a number of

Where did you two meet? Specific Location?

So, let’s run with this cute little scenario for a minute. Two years ago, you walked into your favorite coffee shop to grab a macchiato. Your future significant other was sitting there staring at you from across the room. And when you two locked eyes you knew that you just met the one. Cute story right? Well, while you’re thinking of that special place, here is what you would do next. Reach out to the owner of that place and see how much it would be to rent the space for the day or even for a few hours. How real would it be to commit to each other in the place that you first met?

What’s your favorite thing to do together?

Do you like hiking and seeing scenic views? Imagine finding the perfect spot in Olympic National Park for you and your lover to say I do. Or maybe you’re not the hiking type, and the thing that you two really love to do is watch new movies together. Rent a movie theatre and get married on stage. Write down a list of things that you two like to do as a couple, think of the places that are associated with those places and choose a spot.

Is your backyard wedding size?

An intimate wedding or elopement doesn’t have to be on the side of a cliff or in a fancy venue. It could be right at your home. I know that you’re probably thinking: what in the hell is this guy talking about? My backyard isn’t the spot. But hear me out. Add a little dream, and a lot of creativity, and it could be a whole vibe.

Imagine over the top florals installed in your backyard and it feels like you are getting married in a garden that is crafted from your wildest dreams. Sounds dope right?! Completely outside of the box and nothing like the backyard wedding you were thinking when I first mentioned it. Yeah, I know what you were thinking – a wooden arch, wedding attire that used to belong to your grandparents, and plastic folding tables with no covering. Yeah, we don’t have to go down that avenue.

How about eloping in a new location.

There are so many places around the world that could make for a beautiful wedding space. Where is somewhere you have always wanted to go but it just felt like too much for a normal vacation? Well, it is your wedding day, no better time than right now.

Is there a Town/State that is really special to you two?

Maybe there is a town that you two go to every few years because you are just obsessed with it. Take that and find the most iconic spots in that town and see if it is possible to get married there.

Find your dream Airbnb for your wedding.

There are some amazing Airbnbs that actually allow you to host an event in the space, what better way to get married, have a scenic area, and have a few of your closest friends and family without getting out of pocket. You don’t think your backyard is cool enough, well, use someone else’s.

Maybe you already have the perfect place in mind and you are just afraid that it won’t “feel” like a wedding. Well, I’m giving you permission to go after it! Make the arrangements and the rest will come together to feel one hundred percent like you.
